Blancco's Erasure Suite Evolves Remote Data Removal for Efficient Enterprise Security

English news - Businesses now and in the future must continue to cope with exponential growth in digital information stored on PCs, laptops, servers, mass storage devices and smart phones - much of which is protected by increasingly stringent legal and industry standards, including the WEEE directive (EU), Data Protection Act (UK - ICO), Sarbanes-Oxley (US), and The Personal Information Protection Act (Japan - JPIPA). In 2009 alone, the amount of global digital information grew by 62%, creating enough gigabytes to stack DVDs from the earth to moon and back, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC) of the US. To help companies efficiently secure their data-rich electronic assets, Blancco, the global leader in data erasure and end-of-lifecycle solutions, today announcedthe availability of its Blancco Erasure Suite, a flexible, centralized solution developed to easily manage large quantities of disposable assets in multiple remote locations.

"IDC predicts that while data will grow by a factor of 44 from 2009 through 2020, the number of information technology (IT) professionals will increase only by a factor of 1.4; thus, comparatively small IT staffs will be challenged with thoroughly removing all information from an ever-growing number of electronic assets set for retirement and reassignment, especially in an increasingly strict global regulatory environment," said Kim Vaisanen, CEO of Blancco. "This situation necessitates a powerful on-line erasure tool that centrally manages data removal for corporate IT security officers and IT asset disposal centres (ITADs), while monitoring erasure activities and authenticating reports to ensure audit trail integrity for compliance purposes."

The new Blancco Erasure Suite combines upgrades of Blancco's trusted data erasure client software and recently introduced Management Console to create a complete solution for managing the entire data erasure process, from erasure to report retrieval and audit preparation. With the Console, a central IT staff can execute remote erasure for multiple and diverse assets through a LAN via a Web interface, as well ascreate flexible hierarchies to control user rights and licenses. Comprehensive reports can be viewed, modified, shared with applications,or sent via email, depending on user rights, while authentication functionality ensures reports are not altered by unauthorized sources.

"Estimates show that regulatory compliance has become a $46 billion per year industry, yet it is a necessary part of secure business operations," continued Vaisanen. "Blancco Erasure Suite supports economical and efficient inclusion of data erasure in a business's IT security policy by allowing central management of on-site data erasure. This is especially critical for geographically distributed businesses and datacentres, where data is often unencrypted."

Blancco is the proven data erasure solution for millions of users around the globe. Yoogli Announces Release of Next Generation Search Application

English news - www.Yoogli.com announced today the beta release of its Meaning-Based Semantic Search Engine. Yoogli is a companion technology used with all keyword search engines. It adds highly targeted related search results not available from Google, Bing and Wikipedia.

Yoogli's software engineers have created pioneering methods that understand the meaning of entire pages of text being searched by a user. Yoogli matches those pages to other related pages found on the Internet. The technology is able to deliver more related and targeted results in addition to those produced by current keyword search engines. Yoogli allows people to research and find the information they are most looking for, save information that is most useful to them in their own personalized collections and share those collections with other people.

"This revolutionary technology takes the burden of finding the right keyword combination off of the user, and puts it squarely on the technology itself, where it belongs," said David Taylor, Chief Technology Officer. "By learning the framework of each user's preferences and habits, the search technology establishes each user's unique search footprint and identifies the most appropriate set of search results for each person. Data Conversion Laboratory Selected to Perform Major Conversion Project for HighWire Press

English news online - Data Conversion Laboratory, Inc. (DCL), providing conversion services and software to publishers, industry, government, libraries, and documentation developers, has been selected to aid HighWire Press, a division of Stanford University Libraries, in an ongoing project to standardize files HighWire hosts online on behalf of scholarly publishers.

HighWire's original platform supported a number of SGML DTDs, including the Keton DTD, the HighWire DTD, and others. After participating in the research that ultimately gave rise to the National Library of Medicine (NLM)'s Journal Archiving and Interchange Tag Suite as an industry standard, HighWire adopted NLM XML as its new encoding model for journal content, while continuing to support other DTDs as well. With DCL's assistance, HighWire began the process of converting all legacy content originally cast in other DTDs to this new standard.

At present, DCL is working on converting the Keton SGML files and has already converted nearly 60,000 pages. The next segment of the project involves converting over one million pages. The first 225,000 page portion is scheduled for completion in 2010, the remainder to be delivered in 2011.

English news DCL is a world leader in conversions to the NLM DTD, and a primary vendor for HighWire Press – and also NLM – since 1999, converting from PDF to XML, as well as from SGML to XML. Utilizing its proprietary software, DCL converts large volumes of data, and can convert backfiles, and ongoing content, from a wide variety of sources.

Kathryn Henniss, Production Systems Manager at HighWire, discussed the reasons for choosing DCL: "We selected DCL for this project since, as primary conversion vendor for NIH, they are experts in converting to the NLM DTD. DCL has been a valued technology partner the last decade, and it has always been a pleasure doing business with them."

Mu Dynamics Discovers, Helps Repair Zero-Day Vulnerability for Microsoft Windows Server 2008

English news - Mu Dynamics, Inc. (www.mudynamics.com), the leader in testing next-generation network services, today announced that it discovered and helped remediate the fix for one of the zero-day vulnerabilities detailed in today's Microsoft Patch Tuesday security bulletin. Microsoft credited Mu Dynamics with finding TLSv1 Record Client Denial of Service Vulnerability (CVE-2010-3229), which is categorized as Important. The vulnerability pertains to a low-level Secure Channel (Schannel) package that handles security negotiations for networked applications of any Microsoft IIS-based web site or cloud service deployed on Windows Server 2008. As a result, un-authenticated users could crash the entire Windows Server 2008 using a single packet.

Using the Mu Studio Fuzz solution, Mu Dynamics worked closely with Microsoft to demonstrate and reproduce the vulnerability. Microsoft was able to quickly identify the problem, develop a patch and re-test to validate the fix.

As an active member of the Microsoft Security Development Lifecycle (SDL) Pro Network, Mu Dynamics periodically tests products, such as Windows Server 2008, for vulnerabilities using the Mu Test Suite. Input validation of error and exception handling is consistently one of the most challenging areas to test. The Mu Test Suite auto-generates tens of thousands of fuzz tests that systematically and intelligently manipulates the fields in every packet of a custom transaction. The Mu solution also enables quick and efficient remediation by isolating the issue, facilitating communication between the development and test teams, and integrating into automated regression test beds.

Xenemetrix's dedication to constantly augmenting customer value is demonstrated through its outstanding products. Versatile technology enables devices to cater to a specific end-user function, rather than general-purpose applications.
